How do I use Tretinoin (Retin-A / Renova) Cream?
Tretinoin (Retin-A / Renova) is a form of vitamin A used topically to treat acne, but has also been proven to improve wrinkles. It is important you follow the advice and instructions of your GP, and regard the following as a guidline for use only.
Apply a thin layer of Tretinoin (Retin-A / Renova) onto the affected area(s) before sleeping at night.
The following morning, wash the treated area(s) with mild soap and a wash cloth.
Next apply a decent water based moisturiser to the treated area(s) to help reduce flaking which is sometimes a side effect when using Tretinoin (Retin-A / Renova). If flaking occurs later in the day, use a wash cloth to remove flakes and apply more moisturiser.
When you begin using Tretinoin (Retin-A / Renova) cream, apply only every 2 or 3 nights in order to allow your skin to adjust to the medicine. This helps to prevent any possible severe flaking and/or irritation. After a short period, you may begin using it every night.
If flaking or irritation becomes bothersome, consult your GP. It is advisable to take a short break from using the cream, however changes to your schedule should always be done under your GP’s guidance.
Tretinoin (Retin-A / Renova) increases your skin’s risk of burning when exposed to sun. Stay out of the sun as much as possible, and cover treated skin, or use sunscreen, if you must expose the treated area(s) to the sun. As an added precaution you can use moisturiser that contains sun protection.
